Amazon and D2D are not your friends. Of course they have removed the middleman (not entirely) from the game and now anybody with a good book can become an author. Also if you conduct any experiments going out of the line from the terms and conditions of both sites (which nobody reads anyway) you are a dead meat for them.
My mistake was to publish fan fiction. I published a book titled Harry Potter’s Verse. It’s my original poetry but it was enough for them to block me forever. They explained that even me apologizing and allowing to remove the book wouldn’t be enough to restore the account.
I found D2D publishing. Also known as draft2digital.com and I started publishing with them. After seeing close to no sales I tried to game the system again in my advantage. I developed a software that shuffles poetry pages from poetry book I wrote an creates more version of poetry books. I’ve designed original book covers and blurbs for these new books and I uploaded over 200 books manually.
I got $200 in two days from poetry this way. Then I got blocked.
Lessons learned: if you want to do big business in publishing industry forget about Amazon and D2D. If you don’t have a big company standing behind you or funds to invest in writing a lot of original books fast it may take you more than a decade to get your promised $1,000,000.
Best way, write a good book, edit it, edit, edit it , edit it again, until it’s perfect and you gone mad, and then find a literary agent in NYC or London and let them fight the rest of the battle for you while you are writing a sequel.
